7.3.1. A technical characteristics
THE GENERAL DATA

Automatic transmission A4LD has four transfers for advance and backing transfer. During advance the gear change lever can occupy four positions: "D", "3", "2" and "1". On models of early release of position "D" and "3" were designated as "DE" and "D". Besides, this lever can occupy three more additional positions designated: "P", "R" and "N". 4th transfer is надпередачей (has the transfer number increasing number of turns).

Engine start is possible exclusively at installation of the lever of a gear change in positions "Р" or "N". The Safety device does impossible engine start if the gear change lever is in any other position.

Positions are designated about the lever of the gear change located in a floor of the car. In position "D" the gear change occurs automatically in all range. The automatic choice of transfer depends on speed of movement, however there is a possibility of switching of transfer by the driver on more lowest pressing of a pedal of an accelerator against the stop (kick-down) in position of the maximum opening throttle заслонки the carburettor.

Braking by the engine is made in positions "1" or "2".
